    video intercom

    Hello,

I'm looking at video intercoms. While it would be nice to integrate it with Loxone, that is not that important. I'm currently looking at quite cheap models as the application is quite specific (indoor bell in an apartment building). But as such, it also does not need the door opener and gate opener functions. I was thinking: could I wire those to inputs to the miniserver, so they could serve as normal buttons? The models I'm looking at have a normal pair of wires for connecting to such devices; I think just need to check that they are not powered, yes?

    Thanks,

    Jörg

Ok, the more I was looking at things, the more some integration with the miniserver would be nice. I found this nice set made by Orno, which has a video doorbell+monitor, and the monitor connects to ethernet to provide a video stream. But of course it is an old model that is no longer on the market.

There are some low cost IP doorphones, so maybe that is a possibility. I think it should be possible to wire a bell to an output of the miniserver (any suggestions for this?).

Second question: if I put a cat5e ethernet cable to the front door, can I use that cable to connect a standard doorbell?

    Thanks,

    Jörg

      hi there!

      first of all:
right now two organge CAT7 cable are hanging arround where my video doorbell should be cause of i need to make the same decision as you have to do!

Im reading different forums, contacted support and talked with people using different solutions.

Here is my opinion (with pros n cons from my point of view):

Theoretically: you can use every IP CAM with a AUDIO which supports an stream the MS supports!

Practically: there are only two options without doing a fancy raspberry pi stuff which are the following:

      - loxone intercom (which is a http://www.baudisch.com/produkte/kompaktsprechstellen)

      pros:
      - looks pretty cool
      - full loxone support

      cons:
      - (bad) cam in comparison to the T25
      - les options
      -price

      - Mobotix T25 (https://www.mobotix.com/ger_CH/Produ...BCrstation-T25)

      pros:
      - good cam
      - nice features/options (like connect to DECT phones via fritzbox)

      cons:
-looks like cheap plastic to me
      .price

Both are like 1100-1500€ here in germany which is hard to justify cause an cheap video bell without loxone is available arround 200-300€.

Right now my belly goes for a T25!
Because: Even if i need to switch in 10 years to a different system than loxone ill be able to integrate to use my T25 easily and im not sure if the loxone stuff is supported in that case!
Even right now i have more options to connect e.g my firtzbox/DECT phones to my mobotix!

I have found some cheaper models here; but they may be local market:
        http://www.orno.pl//45,video-doorpho...e-securitas-ip
        http://www.genway.pl/vidi-mvdp-1-mob...doorphone.html
(each approx. 130 euro, the price on those websites is listed in PLN; 1 EUR = 4.4 PLN)

For my use; as a doorbell in a corridor, water proofing and night vision performance are not important. For me, at that price, it makes sense to consider it over a normal wired doorbell even. It is a bit more expensive than a normal wired doorbell, but the video is a nice benefit (difficult to see through the peephole + you clearly know if somebody rang or not).

The problem I have now: I don't know if those models are compatible with Loxone... And I don't know (yet) how to get a bell to sound: if they are compatible with Loxone, I suspect there is some way of wiring a bell to the Loxone to make it ring.
I don't like useing a phone all the time, but I could consider installing a cheap android tablet, which would serve as control panel for both the MiniServer and the intercom. It would be fullt ime powered though, so perhaps not the most economic...

As said before there are a lot theoretically working solutions on the market.
But if seen non of them working perfekt without putting alot effort in a separate device like a SIP server or Rasperry Pi.

Yes... The problem I fear with an IP doorbell is getting it to work. If you don't have a phone connected to a data network (wifi, 4g) at the time, or don't have the app running, you might not be notified if somebody rings the bell. This of course changes if you wire a bell to the Loxone, but will you then launch an app to see who is at the door?

The solution around this would be to install some "display" (I use quotes, as it needs to be more than just a display, rather something android or Raspberry based), which would serve as dedicated device for the doorbell and at the same time could double as touchscreen controller. Using some android device may solve some issues: if the doorbell device does not work well with Loxone, one can fall back to the dedicated app for the specific device (but how long will that support last... :-)).
This is also a bit my reservation with a normal video doorbell: there is a nice display that is unused for 99.99% of the time, and it is most likely (at least will be in my case) in a very central location. Seems a bit of a waste... :-)

For me, it is not an urgent change, but I am thinking about the best options.

That is exacly why most are going for the mobotix. Works perfect with Loxone AND you can use it even better without loxone.(e.g connect a mobotix display or your fritzbox, bell...)
without have a ugly pi solution.

Yes... but it is more I'm willing to spend... and it would still use a normal display which does not add Loxone control functions (unless you go with a tablet or pi solution).
From what I gather, audio is the biggest problem with the other ip video intercoms, but for my purpose that one is not that important. I will probably leave it for now, as the change to my door intercom will not be that soon. Furthermore, the main intercom may be changed soon, so perhaps there is some combination with that, but I don't know yet what they will install.

                Thanks for the advice!
