I've installed the beta to try it out.
I am disappointed to see not what I've been expecting.
I thought that it would be possible to control Matter devices (for instance Thread smart plugs connected to HomeKit via Apple TV).
Or integrate any other external Matter-enabled devices to Loxone.
Nothing of that.
For now, this integration only exposes Loxone devices (lights, switches, thermostats, etc.) to the Apple or Alexa ecosystems.
Speaking of Apple, it seems to me that it does exactly the same thing as already existing Loxone HomeKit integration, only with a different protocol.
So in Apple Home there is simply another bridge from Miniserver, which exposes basically the same devices to HomeKit.
I don't see any benefits of this so far.
However, there may be benefits from exposing Loxone devices to Alexa (or Google Home, in the future). This kind of Matter integration means that running Homebridge or Hoobs (or paying insane 1000 EUR for 1Home Bridge) will no longer be required to voice-control Loxone devices with Alexa or Google Assistant. It comes down to a relatively simple task of adding "Loxone Matter" bridge (using QR code) in the Alexa or Google Home app. This is actually huge and I like it.
I'd really love to see that Loxone will not end this on exposing devices to other ecosystems only, but will also provide way to control external Matter-enabled devices. But frankly speaking, I don't believe its gonna happen. Most probably Loxone with limit Matter integration to acting as Matter device(s) and call it a day. They will brag about "Matter support", being "Matter compatible" and "Matter certified". Why bother with allowing Matter devices to be controlled?
