How to migrate to new Raspberry

    Hello all,

My current Loxberry installation sits on not-new Raspberry Pi 3B+ and I am considering to perform a little upgrade to Raspberry Pi 5.

I am on latest version of Loxberry (3.0.0.6) using mainly zigbee2mqtt functionality, only hardware connected to Loxberry is Zigbee dongle from Sonoff. I have also few plugins like Weather4loxone, stats4lox and FOSHKplugin.

    My questions:

    1. What is easiest/safest way to migrate to new Raspberry?
    2. Considering using Loxberry for long time, at least as long as I have house with Loxone, what is best way to run Loxberry? Is it still Raspberry or should I consider some kind of virtual environment (e .g. Proxmox)?

    Thanks for your ideas

    Jan K.

Pi5 isn't supported yet by DietPi. Anyway you have to setup a new LoxBerry from scratch. Its much faster than trying to migrate to new hardware.

I would not buy a Raspberry anymore, except you are using hardware which needs an original Raspberrz (GPIO Head).

If you prefer a SBC, I would recommend an Odroid C4 with eMMC. As fast as Pi4 with less power consumption and much more stable hardware because of eMMC.

Proxmox is a good alternative if you plan to have more than one SBC. E. g. if you plan to have a MS4H besides a Loxberry.

I use Proxmox on a Lenovo ThinkCentre M710q - i5-7500T - 256GB SSD - 16GB running some VMs for LoxBerry, MS4H, NAS, Plexiglas Mediaserver, PiHole. Hardware costs around 150 EUR (used one).

Only thing connected to Raspberry Pi is zigbee USB dongle, nothing connected to GPIO.

I have no preference of using Raspberry or any other device, my idea idea to run Loxberry in long term, meaning longer than longevity of any device. I would like to make my life easier in the future when e.g. Raspberry will die.

Besides SBC and Proxmox, are there any other ways to run Loxberry that you would recommend?

As written: if SBC, then Odroid. If you would like to be independent from hardware, then VM. Proxmox is popular, any other VM-Management will also do.
